With an objective to provide a highly flexible type of education to the Secondary/ Senior Secondary Education level to the children belonging to rural areas, scheduled caste/ scheduled tribe, women etc., providing quality education, to enable over-aged dropouts complete their schooling and in view of the need to accelerate the pace and progress of secondary education, especially in rural conglomeration, Sri Vidya Saraswathi Educational(SVS) has been established.

To universalize school education and improve developmental strategies amongst various groups in the society in the country under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshan Abhiyan, especially disadvantaged groups, it is proposed to introduce the Open School System through SVS duly incorporating the missing links to make it more flexible, foolproof, vibrant and learner friendly through introduction of `on-demandÂ’ online/ offline examination system and by following the `open school systemÂ’ modules for the secondary/ senior secondary stage of education.

The salient features of the Open Schooling system as proposed by the SVS are as below:

  • In respect of Secondary/High School and Senior Secondary/Intermediate programme, the learner will study 6 subjects for Secondary and 5 subjects for Senior Secondary for the purpose of certification. However, a learner will be permitted to study one more subject as per his/ her convenience.
  • Course curriculum in each subject will be planned for 100 hours of study time, and out of this 40 hours will be at study centre/ academic centre/ personal contact classes and 60 hours as self-study.
  • The entry requirements at SSC (10th) level will be as followed by open schools.
  • The SVS will have the option to have its branch(s) at places other than Madhya Pradesh also, depending on the need and requirement, as the scheme progresses.
  • The SVS will conduct public examinations twice a year, as is being practiced by other State Open Schools.
  • A candidate will get nine chances to appear in the public examinations over a period of 5 years from the date of registration to complete the Secondary School Certification (SSC)/ Sr. Secondary School Certification (Sr. SSC).
  • SVS shall issue SSC/ Sr. SSC pass certificates under its emblem to all those who qualify the SSC/ Sr. SSC course. These certificates will be equivalent to SSC/ Sr. SSC of formal system in the country on reciprocal basis.
  • A candidate can choose to appear in any one or more subjects in any examination and earn credits, which will be accumulated till all subjects required for certification are successfully completed within a period of 5 years from the date of registration.
  • Candidates who have appeared in SSC examination in any other Board/ Council recognized by COBSE and have passed in certain subjects can get their credits transferred up to a maximum of two subjects while appearing for SSC in the Open Schooling system.
  • A minimum of one institution in each Block will be nominated as Academic Centre/ Study Centre for academic centres. However, there may be no restriction for more ACs/ SCs in case of demand.
  • In respect of vocational courses, various reputed vocational educational institutions will be approved and made partners in the programme. The candidates who choose to study vocational subjects will have to undergo vocational programme in approved vocational institutions and will have to pay separately the course fee for the same.
  • To operationalize the scheme, SVS may take necessary steps to strengthen the structures and constitute committees as required necessary from time to time.

Notwithstanding that the need for provision of secondary/ senior secondary education is imperative, to give admission to students/ learners under open and distance education mode with immediate effect as follows:

  • in the secondary school certificate (10th class) course those who have completed 14 years of age as on 1st August of the year in which admission is sought for on the basis of and declaration to the effect that the candidate has studied enough to be able to pursue secondary certificate course under the open learning mode;
  • in the senior/ higher secondary school certificate course those who have completed 16 years of age as on 1st August of the year in which admission is sought for after qualifying in the entrance test prescribed to pursue senior/ higher secondary courses under the open distance learning mode;
  • to establish counseling centres, information centres and examination centres as per the demand and need of the student community.
